Membership application
MossRates reserves the right to approve or deny any membership application at its sole discretion, and may refuse, suspend, or revoke membership where it is reasonably necessary to protect the integrity, independence, and proper functioning of the platform.
Ratepayers
MossRates only allows verified ratepayers to create Standard or Business membership accounts. These membership tiers are reserved for individuals and businesses who contribute to and participate in the ratepayer-driven work of the platform, helping ensure the community remains accountable, transparent, and focused on local municipal issues.
Goverment positions
MossRates does not allow certain government and political role-players to create an account, to protect the platform’s independence and avoid conflicts of interest. This includes any employee of local, provincial, or national government serving in a senior and/or managerial position; any serving councillor and/or ward representative (regardless of political affiliation); and any political association or political party.

What's the best package for me?
If you’re a ratepayer who wants to help drive impact, support investigations, follow updates closely, and vote on polls—then Standard is the right fit. If you’re a business owner and you want visibility in the community while pushing for a better municipality, Business is ideal because it includes promotion in the MossRates Business Directory along with participation and published findings.
What’s included in the Business membership directory advertising?
With the Business membership package, your company will be promoted in the MossRates Business Directory, giving local residents an easy way to discover and contact trusted services in the area. Your listing helps increase visibility, supports local trade, and connects your business directly with a community that values a well-run, transparent municipality.
What does “Investigative support” mean?
Investigative support means we help gather information, verify claims, track municipal issues, and compile findings so the community can act on facts—not rumours.
On Free, support is limited to priority topics and available capacity. Standard members help fund deeper investigation and faster follow-through.
How do polls and voting work?
Polls are used to measure community priorities and guide what issues get pushed forward.
Standard and Business members can vote, so your input directly shapes which actions and investigations get prioritized. Free members can view updates and comment on blogs, but can’t vote on polls.
